CRITERIA and PROCEDURE for the SELECTION OF COACHES

One Coach for the USA Cycling Team and
One Coach for the Mountain Bike Team

COACH DESCRIPTION

General:

Coach will be responsible for recruiting, training, and preparing the USA Cycling Team (Road and Mountain Bike) for the 2013 Deaflympics (an Olympic-format Games for deaf athletes) in Athens. He will be aware of and adhere to the USOC Coaching Ethics. The contents of the USOC Ethics can be found at the USOC website. The selected coach will work closely with USDCA on the following expectations:

(1)  to prepare the cycling team for any international competition
(2)  to coach the USA cycling team for the 2013 Deaflympics in Athens
(3)  to recruit deaf cyclists for the national team
(4)  to develop cyclists' skills to the fullest
(5)  to coach the team during competition periods
(6)  to monitor team cyclists' training between competitions
(7)  to provide clinics and training to potential cyclists
(8)  to evaluate cyclists' skills, condition, and endurance/stamina for placement on the national team
(9)  to possess expressive and receptive sign communication competency throughout the term.
Mandatory Eligibility Requirements: (1)  Be a US citizen
(2)  Have a valid driver's license
(3)  Be 25 years of age or older
(4)  Have a valid United States passport
(5)  Agree, sign and abide by USADSF Honor Code
(6)  Have a coaching certification
(7)  Member of USA Cycling, USDCA and USADSF
(8)  Complete his/her US Team application packet and pay a non-refundable US Team application fee of $100 within 30 days of selection.

Qualifications:

For qualifications, the Screening Committee will consider are as follows:

(1)  Years of coaching experience in field of cycling on both international and domestic level
(2)  Credentials in coaching, training, and teaching,
(3)  Years of experience in racing at all levels
(4)  Years of association with deaf cyclists
(5)  Sign language competency
(6)  Active member of USA Cycling, USA Deaf Sports Federation and USDCA in good standing
(7)  Awareness of and adherence to the USADSF Honor Code

Deaf candidates are encouraged to apply. Evidence of expressive/receptive sign communication competency is strongly desired.

Due Process:

All coaches have a right to obtain due process in accordance to the USDCA and USA Deaf Sports Federation by-laws if they feel the selection criteria was not followed properly.

Information regarding the Coach position shall be distributed through, but not limited to, e-mail, e-list, affiliated cycling organizations (USA Cycling, U.S. Deaf Cycling Association and USA Deaf Sports Federation), deaf publications and clubs, high school associations, and universities wherever practical.

CRITERIA and PROCEDURE for the SELECTION of COACHES

1. The United States Deaf Cycling Association (USDCA) is presently accepting applications and resumes from persons interested in the coaching position of the USA Deaf Cycling Team and Mountain Bike Team for the term of 2010 to 2013.

2. All applications will be reviewed by the screening committee, comprised of seven people (one former Deaflympics USA Cycling Team member, one USDCA member and USDCA Board Members) for the coaching positions.

3. The selection committee will review the resumes. Individuals will be chosen and interviewed. The interviews may be conducted in person, via videophone or by e-mail. The selection committee will make a final decision based on the interviews and qualifications.

4. Each applicant will submit a resume including the recent document, if existing, of coaching record with dates, names and addresses of institutions and persons to whom applicant was responsible at each institution.

5. The selection committee shall recommend to the USADSF Board the one individual chosen to be the coach for the cycling team and coach for the mountain bike team upon approval by the USADSF Board.
