It seems that this ride has become an annual routine for the California Deaf Wheelers during the Happy New Year Day.  Six members had the will power to stay somber the night before they geared up for the big hill climb ride first thing in the morning and assembled at the Alum Rock parking lot by the foothill of Mt Hamilton.

They were having fun passing people and being passed as there were many hearing riders (not in the picture).  They thought that they were freezing, but it didn't seem that cold to them.  They had just gotten there and were still warm from the ride up, so it didn't take long.

The climb was beautiful and the weather was perfecto!  Everything went smoothly until they got to the last few switchbacks, two or three miles from the top.  They could see the Lick Observatory at the top, but there was still a bit of road to cover before reaching the top.  They felt that it has taken them forever reaching the top!

Lamberton said, "The ride was incredible! Pretty tough at least for myself and Bob but we all made it to the top.  According to our GPS guy, Mike Farnady, the total altitude gain for the entire ride was 5,236 feet over the 37 miles.  The climbing part took at least 95% - to the top, thus leaving almost no recovery between climbs".
